Founding member (Executive Editor) of Materials Innovation team, Prof. Irshad Hussain Admitted as a Fellow of RSC, UK

We are pleased to announce and congratulate the founding member (Executive Editor) of Materials Innovation team, Prof. Dr. Irshad Hussain, who has recently been admitted as a Fellow of the  Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK. RSC is the oldest Chemical Society based in the United Kingdom having more than 54,000 members with a core mission of advancement of chemical sciences. The achievement of Fellow status in RSC is indeed a great recognition of Dr. Hussain’s high level of accomplishment as a professional chemist and his outstanding contributions to the advancement of the chemical sciences.

Dr. Hussain (FRSC) is among the founding members of SBA School of Science & Engineering (SBASSE) at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and has led the development of Department of Chemistry at LUMS during its formative years. Chemistry & Chemical Department at LUMS has now emerged as a unique department in the region with 100% acceptance rate of its undergraduate students in fully-funded PhD programs in the world-best universities in USA including MIT and Princeton university. Prior to joining LUMS, Dr. Hussain spearheaded the development of first Nanobiotechnology lab in Pakistan as its Founding Project Director at National Institute for Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Faisalabad. Dr. Hussain has also served as the Chair of National Nanotech Experts Panel at Pakistan Council for Science & Technology in 2015 and currently is the member of the National Core Group of Chemistry and Chair of the National Core Group of Nanotechnology formed by the PM Task Force on Science & Technology. He has also been awarded 02 Gold Medals in Chemistry by Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) in 2007 (Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman Gold Medal) & 2014 (PAS Gold Medal).

Dr. Hussain is now leading Functional Nanomaterials Group at LUMS and his research interest includes the customized synthesis of metal/metal oxide nanoparticles with decent control over their size, shape and surface chemistry and their use as building blocks to develop novel materials for applications in biomedical sciences, renewable energy technologies, environmental remediation and catalysis.  He has published over 130 research articles in prominent journals including Nature Materials, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Chem Soc Rev, Angew Chem Int Ed, Advanced Materials, Advanced Science, JACS, Small, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, ACS Applied Energy Materials, ChemSusChem, Nanoscale, and Chem Commun etc. Over the time, he has established very effective research collaborations across the globe and is among the few most prolific researchers in Pakistan in the field of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology.
