A postdoctoral position in the field of nanomagnetism and spintronics is advertised, within the framework of the Horizon-2020 ERC Consolidator project “3DNANOMAG: Three-dimensional nanoscale magnetic structures”. The candidate will work at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), joining the group led by Dr Amalio Fernández-Pacheco to perform advanced studies in 3D magnetic circuits for applications in spintronics.

Three-dimensional (3D) nanomagnets present unconventional spin and topological properties, which makes them very promising systems for the future development of greener, more capable, multi-functional technologies. In this project, making use of new 3D nanofabrication tools based on focused electron beams, the candidate will carry out first experimental investigations in advanced 3D nanomagnetic conduits, studying the motion of spin textures e.g. domain walls and skyrmions along circuits with a variety of complex 3D geometries and magnetic materials. Going beyond the mere extension of existing 2D designs, the project will study and exploit advanced symmetry-breaking effects induced by the 3D shape of the structures.

The job comprises all steps towards the advanced studies of 3D nanomagnetic circuits: From the fabrication of the structures to their advanced characterisation, associated data analysis and simulation. For experiments, magneto-optical and magneto-electrical measurements will be mostly used, complemented with magnetic imaging techniques. For simulations, micromagnetics will be primarily employed. The candidate will join a young, dynamic international team. Close interaction with other group members and international collaborators, experiments at large facilities and supervision of students are also part of the job.
