The Electrochemical Science & Engineering research group are looking to hire a researcher to develop reduced order models for lithium-ion batteries from physical models. Models are required to estimate the state of high energy batteries and/or supercapacitors and control them on- and offline. This allows us to design high performance battery packs. This post is funded by Innovate UK and the Faraday Challenge to develop the next generation of battery packs and Battery Management Systems to improve performance and lifetime.

Our research group is interdisciplinary and is currently spread across four different departments within Imperial College London. We work at the interface between science and engineering of electrochemical devices. With over 50 postdoctoral & postgraduate researchers, we are a vibrant team with industrial and academic contacts.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will primarily be developing reduced order models for lithium-ion batteries.
You will be working with the wider experimental team to help general and implement control algorithms onto the battery management system.
You will assist in the planning of the research and assist with the publication of findings.
Skills, knowledge and experience

­You should have a degree in a relevant subject area. Completing a PhD (or equivalent) in a pertinent area would be helpful but is not a requirement for appointment as a Research Assistant.
You must have experience of working in a research environment.
Experience of reduced order modelling and control is essential, as is a knowledge of control theory.

This is a fixed term position for up to 12 months in the first instance.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £36,045 – £39,183 per annum.
