We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a collaborative project with Unilever UK that is focussed on the development of degradable polymer s for application as additives in formulations. The aim of the project is to develop materials with predictable rheological behaviour and degradation profiles that can be used to increase the sustainability and reduce the environmental impact of the products in which they are applied. The project will be hosted in the Dove group, in the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham.

The postholder will be responsible for the entire project from synthesis, experimental development through to application-focussed measurement and data interpretation. Training will be provided in all of the component techniques but demonstrable experience in a number of the aspects is required. It is expected that the postholder will have:

completed (or be near to completion) of an experimental PhD in polymer chemistry or materials chemistry
significant polymer synthesis, preferably with experience of ring-opening polymerisation
characterisation experience including molecular characterisation techniques such as NMR spectroscopy etc. but ideally thermo-mechanical characterisations such as DSC and rheology
a practical and collaborative mindset with a strong focus on problem solving and hands-on experience in a laboratory environment.
a record of publishing in leading international journals and/or at conferences.
experience in communication to specialist, non-specialist and mixed specialist audiences
