This position will involve battery research and development specifically relating to electric vehicle batteries and their repurposing for second use or recycling involving recovery and re-use of recycled materials into battery manufacture. The role will encompass stakeholder engagement within REVB battery chain, development of new cell chemistries for full cell batteries, implementation of cell level diagnostics using electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements on new and used batteries. Fabrication of batteries at full cell level using recovered components from spent batteries. Integration of secondary use EV batteries into stationary storage applications at demonstrator level will also be incorporated.



Rechargeable battery cell fabrication at half and full cell level and cell level testing in different cell formats.
Battery characterisation techniques with a particular focus on use of impedance for state of health monitoring of commercial batteries.
Recovery of battery materials from spent batteries and regeneration and reuse with particular focus on cathode components.
Implementation of demonstrator stationary storage set up using secondary use batteries.
Research Management

Manage research resources (including where required, laboratories, and specialist equipment) appropriately.
Work with group leader, collaborators, research office and institute administration to help manage research budget and interact with project partners. keep records as directed and in line with funder/university policy as appropriate.
Income Generation/Funding

May identify sources of funding and pursue the process of securing funds.
May work with PI to contribute to proposals for developmental purposes.
Research Outputs – Write Up and Dissemination

Carry out stakeholder engagement and compile report.
Write up results from own research activity.
Contribute to the research project’s dissemination, in whatever form (report, papers, chapters, book).
Present information on research progress and outcomes e.g., to bodies supervising research; conferences, steering groups; other team members, as agreed with the PI/project leader.
Where appropriate, work with PI to register patents to protect intellectual property.

May act as co-supervisor or be a member of a supervision panel.
May participate in limited teaching hours for own development. The extent of this must not adversely impact the primary research role.
May act as mentor to foreign students on undergraduate placement.
